Jingyan News | Warming Winter with Love: Jingyan Partners with LEGO Group to Support Children in Need
For children facing difficult circumstances, every act of love is precious. It can give them the courage to overcome illness, step out of hardship, and survive the winters of life to embrace a spring full of hope and surprises.
This winter, the Beijing Jingyan Foundation partnered with LEGO Group to bring New Year’s joy to 400 children. Together with our Jingyan partners, including Hunan Children’s Hospital, we organized a series of engaging “Lele Box” activities, adding a touch of childlike wonder to the children’s hospital experience.
This winter, let us continue to care for children in need, creating and sharing even more love that surrounds us all.
Building Joy, Celebrating the New Year
To welcome the upcoming Year of the Snake, the Beijing Jingyan Foundation partnered with the LEGO Group to bring New Year gifts to 400 children in need—a set of LEGO bricks for each child.
The Hematology and Oncology Department of Shenzhen Children’s Hospital has been a long-term partner of the Beijing Jingyan Foundation. It is China’s largest pediatric hematopoietic stem cell transplant center and the largest pediatric hematology-oncology treatment center in South China. In 2024, the Foundation supported 141 children with thalassemia receiving treatment at Shenzhen Children’s Hospital. With the Spring Festival approaching, the hospital staff personally delivered these festive gifts to children bravely battling their illnesses.

The joyful smiles on the children’s faces spoke volumes about their excitement for the New Year gifts. Eagerly tearing open the packaging, the children immediately began their playful LEGO-building journey. Hospital staff and parents captured every moment, from the children’s genuine laughter to their focused creativity.

This New Year gift initiative will gradually reach 400 Jingyan children across multiple partner hospitals, bringing warmth, love, and the spirit of childhood to children facing various challenges. Through play, they have the opportunity to explore, imagine, and experience joy, while receiving emotional support and companionship along their medical journeys.
We sincerely hope that in the days ahead, these children will approach life with the same focus and determination they bring to building LEGO creations—taking steady steps toward their goals and realizing their dreams.
“Lele Box” at Hunan Children’s Hospital: Creativity and Fun Enrich Young Patients’ Treatment Experience
Over the years, the Beijing Jingyan Foundation has consistently provided support to children suffering from serious illnesses such as thalassemia, congenital heart disease, and premature birth. In collaboration with caring partners, the Foundation has also explored diverse ways to promote growth and development for children facing difficult circumstances.

In July 2023, the Beijing Jingyan Foundation introduced the LEGO “Lele Box” program to its partner hospitals, creating dedicated care spaces outside the wards. The program provides children with free LEGO “Lele Boxes” to support play-based learning, bringing companionship and warmth to their treatment experience. As one of the earliest Jingyan partners to adopt the program, Hunan Children’s Hospital actively organizes various patient care activities, allowing young patients to experience the growth and joy that LEGO brings.
From September to December 2024, nurses, medical social workers, and volunteers from more than a dozen departments—including Hematology & Oncology, Cardiology, Gastroenterology & Nutrition, Complex Cases, Rehabilitation, and Child Health—at Hunan Children’s Hospital conducted a total of 41 “Lele Box” activities, serving over 622 young patients.
At Hunan Children’s Hospital, various departments frequently organize themed activities to enrich the treatment experience of young patients. During the “Green Action Starts with Me” activity, medical social workers used LEGO “Lele Boxes” to teach children about waste sorting in simple and engaging ways. In the “Amazing Animal World” activity, the children unleashed their creativity, using building blocks and animal models to craft imaginative scenes. During the “My Dream Home” activity, each child constructed their own envisioned home, resulting in a collection of unique, imaginative houses brought to life by their little hands.

As the year drew to a close with numerous festive celebrations, Hunan Children’s Hospital actively organized a series of themed activities to let children experience the joy of the season. On the eve of New Year’s Day, the “Children Welcome the New Year · Little Hands Build the Future” event brought children together in a circle, eagerly selecting colorful LEGO blocks to create imaginative designs inspired by the holiday. Under the guidance of medical staff, the children fully unleashed their creativity and imagination, building playful and inventive creations—from whimsical castles to futuristic cities, from cartoon characters to festive scenes. Each piece reflected the children’s pure dreams and hopeful visions for the future. Medical staff joined in the building and laughter, sharing a memorable and joyful New Year’s Eve with the young participants.
At the Beijing Jingyan Foundation’s partner hospitals, LEGO sets and “Lele Boxes” have won the hearts of many Jingyan children. In these fun and interactive activities, the children fully unleash their imagination and creativity, learning important skills along the way—problem-solving, making new friends, collaborating and communicating with others, and expressing their own ideas—all through the joy of play.
Since 2023, the Beijing Jingyan Foundation has maintained an ongoing partnership with the LEGO Group. The Lele Box Care Program for Children in Difficult Situations has gradually been implemented at Hunan Children’s Hospital, Shenzhen Children’s Hospital, Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center, Jiangxi Maternal and Child Health Hospital, and Shangrao Maternal and Child Health Hospital. To date, these five partner hospitals have hosted a total of 3,635 Lele Box–related activities, including individual building sessions and group workshops, serving 33,500 families.
At the Jingyan Foundation’s partner hospitals, LEGO toys and Lele Boxes have been warmly welcomed by the Jingyan children. In these fun and interactive activities, the children freely explore their imagination and creativity, while learning important skills such as problem-solving, making new friends, collaborating and communicating with others, and expressing their ideas.
In the days ahead, the Beijing Jingyan Foundation will continue to work with its compassionate partners to provide greater care and support for children with serious illnesses, bringing more love and hope to children in difficult circumstances.
